Food was great. Eat there.
Yes, we ate there a few days ago.
Just ate here yesterday and it is not on the menu. They were actually serving a limited menu also
Ms Rooks is correct. Mary and Dave. They have been in the restaurant business for k. long time in the island. Great people. Mary does a lot of the cooking as well.
I don't thimk so, if they did i would have ordered them.
Nice lunch ,really good flounder special, a bit skimpy on the shrimp plate but nice place . Prices have gone up.
Got take out of course. First time there . Flounder and shrimps was great !!!
Great spot for a quick lunch or a classic southern dinner.
3.5, but there's no half stars here. I got a mixed fired oysters and scallops plate which was fantastic! My sister, on the other hand, got a chef salad and it was quite frankly laughable. It was what would generally be considered a side salad at most places, just overloaded. My 'side salad' was some lettuce in a desert bowl. Don't remember what the other two members of the party got, but will update.
Good food
Good service, good food.,good prices. We go there often never had any problems.
Great food, but they need new management. 45 minute wait when the restaurant is a little over half full. Basically they don't know how to run a restaurant. Cooks are great though.
I have always craved for shrimp burger and I finally found one when I'm on a vacation at oak island. Seafood lovers must try this place
Low quality flounder. Wait staff was nice and price was reasonable. You get lower quality for lesser money, but thats not what intrested me
The food is pretty good but nothing great. Typically easy to get a table.
It's barely OK. Seafood is better at all other restaurants compared to Oak island restaurant. They do have very competitive prices, but i was looking for quality. Actually Captain D is cheaper and better. They do have good tea here and offer a senior discount.
Great breakfast on weekends. They do a great Thanksgiving feast.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. It's quaint and simple but the food was outstanding. My wife had the flounder and shrimp. A huge piece of flounder that was delicious. I ordered the hamburger steak and it was fabulous. Served with gravy and onions. I made a point to the waitress to give my compliments to the cook. I also had pintos and onions that were great. You can really get some good home country cooking here. Check out my photos of our meal. Highly recommend with very reasonable prices. It's a locals type hangout. You will enjoy it.
Fast service. Quaint atmosphere. Very laid back
Slow service. Food mediocre. Long wait to be seated with multiple empty tables in dining room.
I only gave them one star so I could write a review. We had lunch there on Friday. Very, small portion. I had shrimp and crab cakes. I got 9 shrimp and 1 crab cake. Maybe 12 fries. It cost 17.00. This was not a lunch portion, it’s the same all day!!! Oh, and 3 hush puppies, because if you ask for more it’s consider an appetizer and they charge you... Personally, I was very disappointed. I had heard good things and read the reviews, so I expected to have a better experience. Honestly folks, take you vacation money some place else...or leave your appetite at home. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not waste your time or money. The food was awful! Hamburger steak served without gravy, just a dried up patty on a plate. Mashed potatoes are instant, and rolls were straight out of a bag, and coke slaw tasted like chalk. Not “home-cooked” food like advertised...will never go back or recommend.
Food is not what everyone always says. It is ok but wont be going back. Shrimp tastes like shrimp from the frozen section in Walmart
We went there for breakfast, which we have never done before. The restaurant was not full. We waited to be seated then we ordered drinks that took 20 minutes to come. Our breakfast once our order had been taken took another 45 minutes. No one came to refill our drinks or coffee ever. When our food finally arrived the toast was burned and the bacon was very undercooked. The bacon was corrected quickly but the toast finally arrived after we asked another server about it long after we were complete with our meal so the server took it and made faces. Our server was very rude and the girl who was trying to take our payment was even ruder. When we explained how we never received our toast she said well they brought it and she rolled her eyes. This is the worst experience we have ever had at this restaurant. We will not be back anytime soon. And, we own a house that we rent on the island. I am going to make note for our renters to also not patron the establishment.
Great southern fish camp style seafood. Best fried flounder I've ever eaten. Order the small - the portions are huge.
Good food. Have eaten there many times. Yes the wait times can be long on the weekends and holidays but its the same every where else on the island. I've never had a bad meal there and have always been satisfied in what I got. Its nothing fancy and the prices have been reasonable. Its a family diner and have always been treated great. No complaints
Went there as we are big Oak Island fans and they always eat there. I had the fish and chips and it was excellent. Large portion of fresh fish lightly battered and had a crispy texture. So yummy! Fries were right on too. Great atmosphere and service.
Good home cooked food. Good service. Nice laid back atmosphere.
Great seafood. Great service. Best flounder we've ever had....melt in your mouth, mild flavor, perfectly cooked.
Seafood was frozen, not fresh. I had the scallops which were all the exact same size! They were "stamped" out from a fish press. . . .probably purchased at Food Lion. My wife had grilled(?) shrimp. No grill marks. . . .it was frozen popcorn shrimp thrown on flat grill. Won't go back!
Nice atmosphere. Good food. Fast service
Good seafood, sweet tea is sweet and staff is friendly. Summer months expect a wait.
This place has diner style food. If you are a seafood person you will enjoy this place. My husband states this is the best seafood anywhere. I usually go for shrimp plate or hamburger steak. Prices are good and you get plenty of food. Check it out when you are visiting Oak Island..
Really good food with great staff. Nice variety with good portions of food. Packed house the day we went, but they have lots of seating and we were waited on quickly. Very popular with the locals too.
Food was mediocre.. prices were similar to other restaurants in the area however the service was bad as they only had a few staff working on a Friday night.
Amazing catfish and shrimp 100% eating again her next vacation
A wonderful GEM of Oak Island and Brunswick County, the Oak Island Restaurant is a cozy and welcoming place to enjoy some great food and fabulous customer service! I had the burger with fries and a side of corn bread. The burger was perfectly seasoned and the fries were hot and crispy crinkle cut. The cornbread was out of this world! Jalapeno, cheddar, and BACON! Who puts bacon in cornbread? A culinary genius, that's who! The menu is diverse and will satisfy a miriad of cravings, from seafood, sandwiches, and good ole' country style dishes. If you're in Oak Island and you're hungry, then the Oak Island Restaurant is the one stop shop to fill your belly and leave you happy and satisfied.
Took for ever to get our drinks. This is the only fish restaurant that you have to pay for hush puppies as a appetizer. I ordered lemon pepper fried flounder it came out grilled. I took 1 bite and it barely had any meat but was full of bones.
We really like the fish ( flounder, and the shrimp is yummy too.
Standard Mom and pop, meat and 2 dishes. Friendly service.
Food was great, large portion even when ordering the small. Food came out relatively quick. Server was very nice.
Hard to rate. Holiday weekend , very busy. Although they got our order wrong food. was good, friendly servers. So i guess i won't complain.
Outstanding service with a smile. Food was fresh and delicious!
Save your money and go somewhere else. Service was slow. Waited forever to get our food and I could have gotten better fish from McDonalds. Salad looks like it came from a bag at Food Lion.
Friendly servicer. Excellent food decent prices & large portions. Great menu.
Food is as I remember good. But, they were very understaffed. We had to wait 45 minutes before we where seated (Party of 4), 16 people ahead if us. I went inside to use the restroom and there was 7 tables open.. They were at least another 20+ people after us.. As we sat and waited for our food and ate, they never sat anyone in those empty tables.. They only had 1 cook.. Our waitress was nice and we left a nice tip. But, I doubt we will return, we will do as many others did and order the food to go. Sadly that leaves out a tip for their wait staff. Unless you don't mind waiting an hour I suggest call and place a take out order.
Great food with a cozy atmosphere. Wonderful service as well.
Great food David and Mary are amazing people and have turned this restaurant into a community staple!
The food was good it was a little slow getting the food and some was over cooked my onion rings burnt and shrimp was way over cooked. Nice atmosphere and waitress was very nice.
Decent menu. The service is always lacking. Either they are slow or don't have enough waitresses to handle the number of guests. The food isn't anything to brag about but it's decent. We come here quite a bit since there is such a limited number of eating options on the island. Their hours are a bit screwy and will close at the drop of a hat. Their hours listed on the door say they close at 7ish or something of that nature.
Very good steak and best fish on island
Definitely 1970s menu. Ordered the fish sandwich, French fries. Sandwich was ok, fried flounder nothing to get excited about. French fries were not crispy and the number of fries was small. The only restaurant I have been in that has deep fried corn on the cob.
Had the fried flounder and shrimp. Can't go wrong. Very tasty.
The server was verry very good. Meed more like him. Food was very Good.
It is okay and fast service. Good old Mom & Pop restaurant. Good prices.
